BYU Volleyball Tournament Recap

Friday, December 5
BYU started off the tournament Friday morning in a scrimmage against UC Irvine. Reed didn't start, so they lost the first game. They were down the 2nd game, so they put Reed in, but it was too late and they dropped that game too. But then they won the 3rd and 4th games. The 5th game was close, but UCI took it and gave BYU the loss. Reed played well and came away with 2 aces and multiple blocks.
Friday night BYU played Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. They were kind of like playing a high school team. So BYU swept them in 3 games. They even started the second game up 13-1! Reed tallied up another 3 aces!

Saturday, December 6
The morning started off with a scrimmage against Utah Valley University. The boys of UVU were talking up a lot of trash and we were hoping for a good game, but they were like playing a Jr college team! BYU swept them in 3 and Reed had another 3 aces!
Saturday night BYU had it's second chance against UCI. It looked like the Cougs were going to take the first game, but a few silly mistakes at the end gave it to the Anteaters. But the Cougars took the next 3 games to win the match! Reed had another 2 aces-he had a good serving weekend! With that win, our boys in blue won the tournament! Way to go Cougs!

Happy Turkey Day!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We've had a great long weekend. We started off Wednesday night by going to the Body World museum in Salt Lake. It was so cool! We got to see most of the human organs (both healthy and unhealthy), muscles, and blood vessels. Some of the bodies were doing gymnastics, some were shooting arrows, and one was even hurdling! It was really cool. We thought it was really nicely done and are really glad we went.

Thanksgiving Day we went up to Park City with some of Reed's extended family. It was good to see them and Grandma and Grandpa Chilton. Dinner was delicious! and we're so excited that it's now officially Christmas season! On Friday we got our Christmas tree (of course a REAL one!) and decked our house with lights and our other holiday decorations. We didn't do much shopping, but we did do some. It might not sound like a super exciting weekend, but we've really enjoyed it and are even more excited now for Christmas break!

Hawaii!!

So we just got back from our wonderful trip to Hawaii. The men's volleyball team played in a tournament at the University of Hawaii, so I came along with them. We had so much fun! The tournament consisted of 3 schools-BYU, U of H, and USC-and each school had 2 teams. Both of our teams won 2 and lost once, so it was good. It was so fun to get to see Reed play again-and he did so well! But seriously, no one REALLY cared that much about volleyball...

I could type forever, but I know that can get boring, so here's our trip in pictures.

We went to Hanauma Bay to go snorkeling
We saw hundreds fish of every shade of every color, an eel, and even a big sea turtle! He was pretty cool!
We went to The Sandy Beach where we saw some really big waves.

Those crazy boys thought twice about going in...
...but in the end, they just couldn't resist!

Reed and I later went exploring over on the rocks-it was beautiful! We later learned that the waves at The Sandy Beach weren't that big or impressive when we pulled up to North Shore-the waves there are incredible!
Reed and Kevin really enjoyed playing "Crack the Egg" and getting hammered by the waves breaking on the shore-it was pretty funny to watch!

On our way back, we stopped by to see the Laie, Hawaii LDS Temple-it was beautiful! The grounds around the temple were amazing.

We had such a great trip. We are so thankful for the opportunity we had to go and that it was a fun and safe trip. Aloha!

Our Halloween

If you want to see what our plans were for Halloween, click on this link and watch "True Blue Athletes and Halloween" off on the right side (if it's not there anymore, click on "watch more videos" on the bottom and it should be there). And if you go to the Athletic Department page off the link you can read an article about Reed's brother, Kyle, who just got hired as the Media Relations Assistant Director. We're so excited to have Kyle and his family back in Utah!

"You didn't tell me you were going to kill it!"

Happy Halloween! To help us get into the Halloween spirit (which gets harder every year as the Christmas stuff comes out a little earlier), we made caramel apple and carved our pumpkins while we watched, "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown". Since I still haven't been able to master the typical Jack -O-Lantern face with triangle eyes and a goofy smile, I printed off a stencil I found online. I thought my Boo! turned out ok (for me!). Reed found the face stencil and really did an awesome job (his pumpkins are always way better than mine).
Our caramel apples struggled a tiny bit. I think the caramel was too hot when we dipped the apples because it didn't really stick to the apples very well! But it was fun to add crushed up M&Ms and Oreo cookies (but the best part was definitely scraping off and eating the extra caramel on the wax paper!).

Funny how that cute picture of us just happen to be right behind our apples...

PS-Vote yes on Prop 8

View From the Top

Last weekend the volleyball team hiked Timp. They met at the school at 5am and got back around 2pm. Reed made it to the top in about 3.5 hours and brought home these gorgeous pictures!

Could they have picked a better fall day?

You Guessed It...He's Gone!

Yesterday, Sept 3rd, Bryant reported to the Missionary Training Center! I can't believe it! He will be there until Sept 24th and then will spend 2 years in the Lansing, MI mission. We are so proud of him and know he will be an excellent missionary. Reed and I were able to go to the MTC with him and my parents to say the final good byes. It was my first time at the MTC-it is a horrible place! Everyone is just so sad and your missionary disappears through some door for 2 years! Mom did ok, Reed got mistaken for the new missionary, and the old lady thought I looked great in blue.

It's Never Too Early...

...to start getting excited for volleyball season! The 2009 schedule is up! As much as I miss having a weekend or a husband, I do love being in season. But the real big news is that I will be joining the volleyball team in November to a tournament in Hawaii!!! I've never been, so I'm super excited! And it's awesome because Reed is all paid for by BYU-so it's two for the price of one! BYU even pays for half of our hotel room, so we figure it would be dumb for me not to go. Anyways, click here to see the schedule and mark your calendars for a fun 2009 Cougar Volleyball season!

"The Best Vacation Ever!"

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Idaho with the Johansson family. Every time my dad took any pictures, he'd ask if it was for the blog. So as soon as he sends them on to us, I'll post the"real blog pictures". Here's our trip in photos:

We started by visiting Grandma and Grandpa Tibbitts in Arco, where Grandpa was the Atomic Days Parade Grand Marshall
And then we went to the Atomic Days Rodeo. Reed got to wear Grandpa's belt buckle and Bryant sported his glasses he caught at the parade.
Then it was off to Redfish Lake-but not without stopping at the chipmunk place (Galena Summit) first!
Once we got to Stanley, we all scurried to claim a room in the cabin.
Monday we went to the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery and fed the Rainbow Trout and went to the hot springs.

Tuesday we hiked 3.5 up to the Bench Lakes, flew kites, and played volleyball.

Wednesday was ATV day. Everything started off great...

Then my quad flipped and landed on top of my bad knee. A few hours later it looked like this:
But we went home happy and dirty

Thursday and Friday were beach days. But dad has those pictures, so we'll just have to wait for those. Here's what my knee looked like when we got home Saturday:
My knee seems to be fine-just badly bruised. Overall it was a really good trip and we had a great time. It was so fun to be with the whole family-with Bryant getting ready to leave for his mission soon, it'll be a long time before we all get together again. Thanks mom and dad for a wonderful trip!

Let Freedom Ring!

Happy 4th of July! This is definitely one of our favorite holidays-warm weather, bbqs, fireworks-it doesn't get much better!
This 4th was such a good one for us. We woke up early and had breakfast and watched some of the hot air balloons until wegot the call to go-then it was off to Lake Jordanelle! Reed's buddy, Kevin borrowed his grandpa's boat for the day and invited us and some other guys from the vball team to spend a day on the lake. We had skis, a wakeboard, and tube to keep us busy all day. The weather and the water wasn't the best, but we made the most out of it and had a blast!

On the boat

Reed and Andrew on the tube

After a quick nap, shower, and dinner, we went to the BYU men's soccer game and then watched the Stadium of Fire fireworks from the field.

One Year & Counting!

Today is our 1 year anniversary! I can't believe how fast it's gone by! Being married is definitely the best and I've never been happier. I'm so blessed to be married to my best friend and can't wait for the rest of forever together! Loves you Reed!!
