The Best of Times, The Worst of Times

Me and Evan had a great day yesterday. He slept when he was supposed to sleep and was awake and happy when he was supposed to be awake. We were able to go on a lovely fall walk around the neighborhood.

When Reed got home from school and work we decided we were gonna get Reed's little sister, Marie, to come over and watch Evan after we put him to bed so we could go to the 2nd half of the men's soccer game. It kind of made me feel like a bad mother for leaving him when he's so young. But he was in bed and fed and we were just down the street. But honestly, it felt soooo good! I love my baby, but it was so nice to get out for a little bit with just Reed. Thanks so much Marie-you'll understand what a wonderful thing you did for me once you have your own little one!

Then it was 1 am on night 1 of sleep training. Evan was up for his feeding right on time. I fed him and put him back in bed. Then he was up again at 3:30 ready for his next feeding, 1/2 hour too early. So I gave him the binky and let him wait for about 20-30 minutes. We fed him and put him back to bed. But apparently he was ready to go back to sleep. Apparently he wasn't ready to go back to bed for the next 4 hours until he was supposed to get up! ugh! Needless to say, it was a long night. But shorter than Wednesday night when he did the same thing starting at 11 pm. I love my little guy, but he can be such a stinker! And of course he was all smiles when we got him out of bed this morning! How can you be upset with this face?!
Workin' hard on tummy time!

What a face! Too, too cute! Tell him I am totally against sleep training, as a grandma I can do that, 'cause I don't have to get up with him :) I do remember those long nights and how totally sweet they are the next morning--Heavenly Father knows we have to have that or there would be a lot of newborns on the curb! Glad you and Reedly got out--you need to do that too. Pretty soon they all leave and it's back to just you and Reed. It happens quicker than you think, trust me.

reggie totally did that too. for like a month. i think i cried every other hour during that period. :( here's hoping evan figures things out quicker than my kid did.

way to go getting out without baby. it's so liberating huh?! we tried out a young woman babysitter a few weeks ago and we're thrilled with how well things went. :)

Yay for getting out! Liberating is the perfect word. And don't worry while you're gone. Remember he's a tough kid. :)

He's so cute! And honestly you have to get out so you can keep your sanity. It's important to everyone's health! :)

He is so cute!! I'm sorry about the sleeping. It's just hard for a while, but they get the hang of things eventually. Keep workin at it. Glad you got some time out. :)

You're making Bailey look like a slacker (well actually me). I'm so impressed that you guys are starting sleep training. I think I may have given up on doing the "true sleep training". At this point I get her really drowsy and she'll go to sleep. Good enough for me! And good job getting out. Bailey goes to bed too late for that right now...

Evan is darling! It was fun to see you guys at the reception! I can empathize TOO well with you on the sleepless nights. We had a rough one last night too. And, as I type, Jonah is snoozing away, when he really should be awake. But, I never wake a sleeping baby, so here's hoping that sleep really begets sleep!
See you in clinic tomorrow!
P.S. I updated by blog too.
